In A Nutshell: Avatar

Stunning. Thrilling. Astonishing. These are only a select few of results that a thesaurus provided as an alternative to breathtaking. Having successfully managed to keep my knowledge as sparse as possible for James Cameron’s latest blockbuster, the imprinted visuals from a single trailer was all that was needed to ensure that my anticipation was sky-high. It certainly didn’t disappoint. Avatar is a truly epic spectacle that has raised the standard; not just for film, but for all mediums. With flawless and unrivalled special effects, an engaging universe that the film world has not seen since Star Wars and a warming, yet exciting storyline, it made a connection with me that has been absent since seeing my first ever Sci-Fi movie, The Fifth Element.
Whilst computer-generated effects (along with the best use of 3D technology to-date) are a massive selling-point for Avatar, it uses it to depict a world and society that would otherwise be misrepresented. With my reaction to any media the primary factor in my opinion of it, the additional research on Pandora, the Na’vi people and their language and the purchase of The Field Guide to Pandora, only begins to highlight my enthusiasm for the worlds highest grossing film. Even after 160 minutes of intense quality, the thirst for more was evident; a hallmark of a great film.
