Heavy Rain Demo Thoughts
Being my most anticipated game of the near future, I am truly gutted to be away when Heavy Rain finally gets released. Having already played the demo available at the Eurogamer Expo many times over, I was interested as to how the PSN released demo would differ. You control both of the same characters in both the older Gamescom code and the newer released code, however the scenarios are completely different.
The demo opens by giving you a brief tutorial to provide an explanation of the unique controls before entering into an action heavy scene with Private Detective Scott Shelby. Taking place in a run-down apartment block, it eases you into the possibilities of Heavy Rain and the diversification of scenarios that could unfold with the variation of your own choices. Following the powerful ending to Shelby’s encounter, you gain control of FBI agent Norman Jayden. Having free roam of the scene of a murder committed by the Origami Killer; the central character of Heavy Rain’s intense plot, you utilise his Jayden’s FBI-grade UV glasses to discover clues as you wander around the murder scene.
Based on the demo, the tense environment is portrayed fantastically, the control system really flourishes and the diverse scenarios available are incredibly exciting. With three playthroughs under my belt already, there are a great variety of possibilities. If the full game delivers on what the demo promises, Quantic Dream will have opened up a brand new narrative for the video games industry.
Expect full thoughts and a review when I finally get my hands on Heavy Rain when I return from my outings in New Zealand, but for now, I am extremely excited for this title and, so far, love everything about it.
